Salem childline a project of the ministry of women and child development, started since April 2002 with the help of childline India foundation.
Childline is a national 24 hours free emergency telephone helpline and out reach services for children in need of care and protection. The childline number 1098 is a toll free numbers which is common in all the cities of India. Initially started in Mumbai in June 1996, childline is currently operational in 73 cities. Childline aims to reach out to the most marginalized children between the age group of 0- 18 years and provides interventions of shelter , medical, restoration, rescue, death related , sponsorships and emotional support and guidance.
CHILDLINE team regularly visits the Railway Junction to contact the Street and Run away Children. They visit the children in Government Observation home twice a week to give counseling. The Childline team does Out Reach Program to the general public, School Children and Open house activities for Slum Children.
