Community Based Organizations (CBOs)
 
Community Based Organizations (CBOs) were started with a view to provide Community Based Care to child laborers and their family. CBOs comprise of Young Men, Young Women, Women and Children group. Several CBOs have come together on their own and have formed the following federations.
 
• Women Federation for Social Justice.
• Young Men Federation for Social Justice.
• Young Women Federation for Social Justice.
• Citizen's Forum for Social Justice.
 
These federations act as People's Movement against the vital issues like Child labour, Bonded Labour, Problems of basic amenities, illicit liquor, dowry, early marriage, female infanticide, communal violence and casteism.
Several training program are organized to enhance their abilities.

• To improve the economic condition of the family, women are trained to produce at home detergents, washing powder, phenol, Nutrition powder and tailoring for young women.
• Young Men are trained in highly demanded jobs like painting, cycle repair, TV service, electrical and plumbing works. This promotes self-employment opportunities amidst the youth.
• Capacity building training has been conducted for young women to cope with the changing society and to take decision on their own.
• Child Rights, Sex Education, De Addiction and social analysis training have been given to all the CBOs in all the areas.
• Personality Development and Leadership training are provided to CBOs. Through this the efficient leaders are identified to participate in the local body administration.
• Training on folk arts has been provided to young men and women to conduct awareness program in their area to highlight social issues.
• Ward councilors from Salem Corporation are united and trained to take part in the activities of the CBOs.
• Young Men are trained to pick up healthy dialogue with police officers about the atrocities against youth.
• Child Rights Convention was conducted in which the children expressed their problems to the government authorities related to education, child labor and bonded labor.
• Young Women are taught to play their role in fighting against social injustice especially Casteism. They also get vital information about laws protecting women and children.

 
FEDERATION’S ACHIEVEMENT
 

Women's Federation for Social Justice (WFSJ) organized a human chain to remove the corporation-dumping yard, which spread about 2 sqr km in Kichipalayam. As an impact of the protest the corporation decided to construct a compound wall around the dumping area and the construction is in process. WFSJ organized a demonstration in front of the Salem Collectorate demanding for Land Deed from Government for people living by the railway tracks. Indira nagar has been announced as Child Laborer Free Village through the efforts of the WFSJ.
The Youth Federation for Social Justice raised a fund to support the aggrieved families of the children of Kumbakonam fire accident. In association with AITUC; they demonstrated a protest against the Government for its inefficiency in organizing the laboring community with welfare means.

Prevention and holistic support to children are given through women’s groups, youth groups, support groups, children’s parliament, federation for social justice and unorganized laborers union. These Community Based Organizations act as People’s Movement against the vital issues like child labor bonded labor, problems of basic amenities, illicit liquor, dowry, early marriage, female infanticide and other social evils.
